Hanging on a tree
Badly beaten and scorned
You looked down at me
and said, “Forgive him Father”
“He doesn’t understand”
Covered with my sins
Lost from the Almighty
Crying, “Abba Father”
You said, “Forgive him Father”
“He doesn’t understand”
You saw me standing here today
With my heart in my hands
Looking up at You on the cross
Crying, “Father, I don’t understand”
You saw me dying without You
As You died in my place
and said, “Forgive him Father”
“He doesn’t understand”
Hanging on a tree
Watching them cast lots
For the clothes You once wore
You said, “Forgive them Father”
“They don’t understand”
Hanging on a tree
Praying to the Father
“Why have You forsaken”
With the nails still in Your hands
You reached down for me
