We played in the fields and woods
Swam in the creek by grandma’s house
Played stickball in the street
Stayed out as late as we could
Never quite ready for our friend to go home
We got gathered for family time
We talked and played music for hours
Shared meals fit for royalty
Laughed together and cried together
Never quite ready for our families to go home
We raised families and saw each other less
The music faded and our lives changed
We are no longer young nor alone
With grandchildren the tree has grown
And we are not quite ready for our loved ones to go home
