There seems to be a outbreak of embarrassment in the Christian community. Maybe I shouldn’t call it the Christian community, because what they seem to be embarrassed about is the name of Jesus the Christ. Songs that use Christian buzz words, but not the name of the Lord, are popping up everywhere. People are talking about a creation presentation that is user friendly, because it doesn’t mention the name of the Lord. Politicians will talk about God as long as the name of the Lord Jesus Christ is not mentioned. Have they not read, “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels” (Luke 9:26)?
King David wrote, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!” (Psalm 118:26). Jesus quoted David and said, “I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’” (Matthew 23:39). That may be part of the reason people are starting to get shy about the name of the Lord. They are tempted by one that doesn’t want us to see the Lord. There is also power in the name of the Lord. “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you” (Deuteronomy 28:10). “So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory” (Psalm 102:15). The same one that doesn’t want us to see the Lord doesn’t want us to know the power of His name.
We need help against the enemy. “Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 124:8). We should be saying, “I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD” (Psalm 116:13). We should teach others to, “Proclaim the name of the LORD: ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He” (Deuteronomy 32:3-4).
How can we talk about creation without talking about the Lord by name? “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3). “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him” (John 1:10). How can we sing about grace and mercy without mentioning the name of the Lord that died to be our righteousness and our salvation. It is written, “It shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Joel 2:32) and repeated, “It shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Acts 2:21) and repeated, “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved’” (Romans 10:13).
Why don’t we get it? There is salvation in the name of the Lord. There is power in the name of the Lord. There is help against the enemy in the name of the Lord. So who would want to stop us from proclaiming the name of the Lord? Would God asked us to stop using the name of the Lord, that He sent to us out of love? Would God tell us to write uplifting songs, but don’t mention Jesus or Christ because it isn’t politically correct? Can anyone really believe that the name of Jesus the Christ is politically incorrect in the kingdom of God? Think about it this way; the name of the King of kings is not politically correct in the kingdom of God. WHAT A LIE! The name of the Lord Jesus the Christ is truth for an eternity. As for me, I am proud to be called by the name of the Lord! By His grace, I am a brother of Jesus and a member of the body of Christ. By His grace I am a Christian, because I accept Jesus as my righteousness and my salvation. Praise the name of the Lord Christ Jesus!
