Lost and Wounded

I walked around with my head in myself
My wounded heart cared only for me
And on a bad day, cared for no one at all
Love was a four letter word not spoken
Or spoken as a lie for pleasure in the dark
A lost and wounded heart finding only itself

Then I said, “I found Jesus,” with empty words
Those that heard me only said, “You are saved.”
Those that heard the Lord said, “He is waiting.”
What was He waiting for, I confessed Him as King
I confessed my need for a Lord and said, “Jesus!”
From a lost and wounded heart finding only itself

Down on my knees I say the name, “Jesus!”
With hands lifted to the heavens I say, “Jesus!”
Singing songs of worship and praise I say, “Jesus!”
With words that say, “I need, I want, I – I – I don’t know”
“Jesus, will You come to me while I am still in myself”
Into a lost and wounded heart seeking his will

The heart of Jesus bled for me in Pilot’s judgment hall
The heart of Jesus bled for me on a hill of punishment
Saying, “Father forgive them, they do not know Your Son”
While I was still into myself, He died to set me free
I prayed, “Jesus will You be salvation and righteousness”
“For a lost and wounded heart needing my Father”

Jesus said, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart”
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
Now hope does not disappoint, because of the love of God
He gave His only begotten Son for me, to set me free
Jesus said, “If God were your Father, you would love Me ”
To a lost and wounded heart finding his way home
