I Am an I, I Cry

I am an I, I cry
As a golden sun rises into a blue sky
What shade is my skin
The light slowly turns a leaf the color of grass
How old or young
A yellow breasted blue bird sings
What is my sex
Day takes me into the sights and sounds
What church do I attend
A child’s laughter brings silent joy
Where are my ancestors
Another’s tear brings me quietly down
Who is my lover
The smell of the city fills the morning air
Am I poor or rich
Life is not happening around but also within
Where was I schooled
When the challenge of this day has reached an end
Will any change for it having been
