When I rose this morning, my heart was down. Some claim that those that are in Christ will not have times when we are down. Some even claim that it is double mindedness to be down. “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, to death. Stay here and watch” (Mark 14:34). “Nevertheless not what I will, but what You will” (Mark 14:36b). It is not being down that discloses the heart, but what you do when you are down. Jesus said by His words and His actions, “Regardless of how I am feeling, it must be Your will and not My own that I follow.” Lord regardless of how I feel, You are still Lord.
Lord, disclose to me why my heart is down. Refresh with Your word and renew with Your Spirit. Strengthen what has been weakened, and heal what has been broken. Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed (Hebrews 12:12-13). My heart is a place for Your dwelling. Why is it sorrowful? Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved (Psalm 80:3).
