Once I knew a man
Who was very sure of
All the things he was
He was happy thinking that
There were some things
He was able to change
Once I knew a man
Who was very sure of
What he wanted to do
He was happy thinking that
There were some people
He was able to help
Once I knew a man
Who though life could be
All the things he was
He was happy thinking that
There was some place
He was able to belong
Once I knew a man
Who was very sure of
All he wanted to be
He was happy thinking that
There was something
He was able to do
Once I knew a man
Who was very sure that
It could be changed
He was happy thinking that
There was some way
He was able to guide
Once I knew a man
Who was very sure that
It was on his side
He was happy thinking that
There was someone
He was able to trust
Once I knew a man
That was me, yesterday
Thinking it could pay
I was happy thinking that
Some things could be
Now I’m able to see
It is never different
Than what it really is
No matter how much we care
I’m not happy thinking that
But I know it’s real
And not me, yesterday
