The Great Debate

There is, or so I have heard, a debate between biological science’s theory of the spontaneous appearance of life verses the theory of life being created by God. Biological science wants to start with the theory of evolution to prove the appearance of life on earth and use fossilized remains and scientific dating methods as proof. Their main argument against the creation, found in the book of Genesis, is the fact that there are remains on earth that are older than the five to six thousand years allowed by creationist. Why are creationists claiming a five to six thousand year windows? The book of Genesis states that “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.” It goes on to talk about the separation of lands and waters and the creation of plant and animal life. Being that creation is not separate from the other teachings and beliefs of the Bible, the belief that God has given man six thousand years sets the windows of time. But Genesis does not state that the first day started until after light was divided from darkness. How much time was there between “in the beginning” and the “evening and the morning were the first day?”

Being that creation is not separate from the other teachings and beliefs of the Bible, there is an explanation of the time between “in the beginning” and the “evening and the morning were the first day.” In book of John we read that the Word of God created everything and nothing that was made was made without Him. That would include the angels. It would include the angels that fell from heaven. There was a battle between the angels of God and the fallen angels. Biological science tells us that a meteorite crashed into the earth and caused a nuclear winter. Basically darkness covered the earth. How does that disprove Genesis? “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness covered the earth. “ How much time was the earth in darkness? Genesis does not say. What existed on earth in between “in the beginning” and the “evening and the morning were the first day?” Genesis does not say. Does fossil evidence disprove Genesis? No!

The Old Testament Bible does not tell us everything. It is the history of Jesus Christ. It is an example of humanity trying to exist separate from God. The New Testament is a pivot point in the development of humanity. It is a calling for individuals to accept the rule of God even if and when the governments do not. The Bible is a book of concepts to help us understand a relationship with God. Science wants to understand life without God, because they want to be autonomous. For some reason they feel that believing in God would limit their ability to think, act and react. Why do they feel that way? In an attempt to gain control over others some have used God as their authority to have control. Some of the same people, claiming to represent God, in the past attempted to stifle thought. There are still those today that think that a belief in God gives them the right to control the thoughts of others.

The acceptance of Jesus Christ as ones savior brings with it a belief that every Christian is to teach others about salvation. It brings with is a submission to Jesus as ones kings of the spiritual kingdom. “The Kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you.” Believing does not give to the Christian control over other believers or non-believers. Being a person of position in a political social setting gives to one responsibility, not control. The example of Jesus is to be the greater servant, while not being to proud to be served. The belief in Jesus brings one into a kingdom in which the believer is not the authority.

In the debate between biological science and creationist, I have heard arguments that lead me to believe that there is not a true debate. Those arguing for creation have closed their minds to the free though that it takes to, understand much less, debate creation. The memorized spouts of truisms from the creationist gives more ammunition to the evolutionist than natural science could ever hope to share. God is true and faithful. The naturalist’s findings do not disprove God or Genesis. If the creation is taken as part of the whole it is proved, not disproved, by natural science. Nature cannot be used to disprove its own origin.
