Once I Held You

Once I held you in my arms
An army ten thousand strong
Could not take you away from me
Nothing could make me forget your smile
Or your heart beating inside of me

You were only here a little while
But my life will never be the same
Holding back the tears feels so weird
So this strong man lets them flow like raindrops
Watering the flowers before they go

I know that I will see you again
When angels walk in plain sight
And the King of kings returns for me
Until then I will keep you safe here in my heart
So you and my love are apart never

How can I ever call it a loss
To have known you and touched you
Loving one created in God’s image
Perfect in His likeness and His innocence
Now waiting in His never failing hands forever
