Rainbows and Ribbons

Rain fell on the earth, forty days and forty nights
A man called Noah found grace in God, and lived
In time the waters withdrew and a rainbow came
Noah saw that it was from God, a promise of hope
Believing the words, “while the earth remains
Of seedtime and harvest and of cold and heat, of
Winter and summer and of day and night
Shall not cease.” A promise of tinted light

Another day a prophet came called John
Neither did he eat or drink to excess
Delivering a promise of one called Jesus

Rabbi, how can we follow You to peace
I ask you to love one another, as I love you
Believe in the One that sent Me to be free
Be partakes of the body and the spirit
One can only truly be, by being in Me
Not to ones self, but to others you must be
Shining forth, a promise written in loving light

Round about us are others searching
And suffering the ills of this world
In each of us are gifts of the Holy Spirit
Not that we should be lords over each other
But that we can be whole in the body of Christ
One of us is not the whole of the Church
We are each a part being served by the body
Singing, praying, crying, loving, and laughing

And we reach out to each other’s needs
Not with answers made of law, but with love
Doing little things to let the rainbow shine

Ribbons are small tokens given for participation
In a game of skill or as reward for something done
But they are also tokens we pass to each other everyday
By a look, a smile and a wave from across the room
One hand, one hug, one kiss, one how have you been
Not to ones self, but to others you can be
Shinning ribbons of light, part of a caring rainbow
