Heroes Never Came

In a time when heroes never came
A man’s dreams in a child’s mind
Produced nothing but endless rain
From the clouds building in his soul
But the rain wore down the stones
That built the wall around his heart
And the Lord washed them away

In a time when heroes were not found
The child’s feet blistered from rubbing
Against the cold hard rocky ground
Until his tenderness became callous
And he missed what he no longer felt
The mind created its own feelings
The heart created its own thoughts

In a time when he did not know a hero
Something from within told him of One
A wind blew in the empty canyons
Deep in the depth of his shadowed love
The wind became a voice in the rocks
It told of a light that is from before time
And a hero that lived outside the mind

In a time when heroes never came
There is One that has already won
There is One that defeated the doubt
There is One in whom it all is done
Jesus the Christ delivered my heart
From the shadows of lost into light
And presents me as His virgin bride

In a time when my child calls me hero
It fills my heart with loving pride
Because within me dwells the One
That slay the dragon to rescued me
And my child sees that hero within
My child has seen the light of love
That only the hero of life can give
