Through out the last two thousand years of history, people have argued the divinity, names, and title of Jesus the Christ. Those that want to deny that Jesus is the son of God (Yahweh), at One with God, and always God, use Psalm 101:1. The LORD said unto my Lord, “Sit you at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” The issue is Adoni vs. Adonai. Adoni is used to reference a king or land owner (master) or other human of high office. The word Adonai is used to refer to Yahweh, or the Most High God. The claim is that David was stating that the Messiah (Christ) would be human. Yes! Jesus was human and the scripture tells us, “And every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has not come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world (1 John 4:3).” The fact that Jesus came in the flesh, as a human, is a major point of doctrine.
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God” (Mark 16:19). The fact that Jesus is now at God’s right hand is a point of doctrine. “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven” (John 3:13). “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Jesus walked the earth as a human, and was received us into heaven to sit at Yahweh’s right hand.
Those that want to argue the divinity of Jesus the Christ, claim that He only came in the flesh. This argument goes back to early theological discussions. If there is only one God, how can Jesus be God and not be Yahweh? The argument answers itself. First one must understand that faith is required to know Jesus as the Christ and Son of Yahweh, as well as the Son of man. Adonia refers to a God Most High or Supreme. Jesus referred to Yahweh as being greater than He (see John 10:29 and John 14:28). Jesus stated that His Father was God Most High or the Most High Lord. The Greek only used on word for Lord or lord. In the New Testament that one word is used when speaking of God or a human king or lord. In the Old Testament there were two different words; one for Lord God and one for a human lord. Jesus was both and it is proper to refer to Him in either way. The prophecies in the Old Testament do not exclude the Messiah from being the Son of God because they referred to Him as a human lord – it was as a human that Jesus came and died.
The next argument is that there is only one God. There is only One Most High Lord God. Jesus did not claim to be the One Most High Lord God. Jesus said He came from God the Father. Then said Jesus unto them, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father has taught me, I speak these things (John 8:28). Then said Jesus to them again, “Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:21). Jesus said “I and My Father are One” (John 10:30). Jesus was not claiming to be Yahweh, but as being from Yahweh with the understanding that the works of the Father were done by the Son. Just as our works are to be the works of the Son, and the works of the Son are the works of the Father. “At that day you will know that I am in my Father, and You in Me, and I in you” (John 14:20). There is One Supreme God of us all.
