His Image

I believe I believe what I believe
Wouldn’t take time to believe what I don’t
And I don’t believe Jesus came
To leave us working and suffering religiously
As we had since mankind took to fall
And years later still living self-righteously

Don’t believe that Jesus’ name
Should be used as an excuse for hate or war
I believe in love and grace and life
But grace does divide houses of law
And a house divided must surely fall
To give way to grace and life in love

I believe freedom is for freedom’s sake
One sacrifice for all separated at first light
I believe God spoke the heavens and earth
Mankind took on the knowing of good an evil
Continuing life became mating and childbirth
Building the temple made without hands

In the beginning He created then found
His temples in darkness, without form, and empty
So He called out to the light, “Light be!”
Formed His image by the works of His hands
Blew in His Spirit to fill the inter Holies
And His image became a living being abundantly
