Jesus walked the earth and taught of the Father and the kingdom of God. Jesus was taken by the religious leaders of the day and presented to the secular leaders to be killed. These things happened during a season when the religious people were observing a feast that prophesied His coming to die for our sins. When we read the scriptures concerning the death of Jesus our Savior, we wonder how they could have been so blind. The religious leaders were so caught up in their teachings about the coming of a Savior, that they missed the revelation of the prophecy. “Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ? However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from” (John 7:26b-27).

Then Jesus cried out, as He taught in the temple, saying, “You both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know” (John 7:28). Jesus wanted the people to know He was from the Father; no matter what they believed about His earthly origin. And He wants us to know that He knows where He is from. “But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me” (John 7:29). When Jesus came, He came from the Father; when He returns He will come from the Father, sent by the Father. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only” (Matthew 24:35).

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest” (John 4:34-35)! Isn’t Jesus saying to us, “You’re so caught up in what you think you know that you are missing the harvest?” The harvest is to do the will of the Father, and to finish His work. Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent” (John 6:29). The harvest is in seeking the kingdom and His righteousness. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33). Jesus is the seed who was planted; Jesus is our harvest; the increase in the body of Christ.

Are we so caught up in our teachings of end times and the return of the King, that we will not know Him when He returns? Are we so caught up in trying to know, what Jesus told us isn’t given to us to know, that we are missing what we can know? We can know where Jesus is from. We can look and see when the harvest is ready, even when it is out of season. Look at the season by examining the growth. Are the fields white for harvest, or ready to plow, or ready to sow? Don’t say, “A man cannot plant in the fall or harvest in the winter.” Don’t say, “Jesus cannot return because I have not seen the things I think I will see before He returns.” The prophecy of God will be revealed according to His will. We are workers in His fields; servants who God calls sons and friends, and He shares the increase (inheritance) with us.
