Driving Down the Road

03/23/2010

One night past, a dream came to me. It was a new day, and my van was damaged in an accident not of my own fault. I continued the day in a rented SUV. The journey took me down a narrow rural road. Crossing over a bridge, I noticed there were cars at the end of the bridge, parked on both sides of the road, and a large pothole to one side. Because of the cars, it was impossible to continue without hitting the pothole. The SUV moved to the left as it came out of the pothole and grazed one of the cars. Stopping, I noticed there was damage to the right front suspension and the SUV was not drivable. Getting out, I went back to look for the car I hit but it was gone. People from the other cars began to gather around, and I woke from the dream.

Yesterday as I drove through the day, the Lord revealed the dream. The new day represents a change. The van represents the current fellowship (congregation) where the Lord has said I am to go from, but to stay in touch with the people. The rented SUV represents a fellowship God is sending me to, for a short season (represented by being rented). The narrow rural road represents two things: the fellowship will be in a small to midsize town or city (as the SUV represent suburban), and keeping on the path God has ordained (the narrow gate). The bridge is crossing over and moving on towards something (a water crossing – something spiritual). The cars lined up at the side of the road represent fellowships that stopped right after a change or move of the Spirit, and have stopped growing spiritually. The pothole represents something this life (fallen man) put in the way of the spiritual journey. The car I hit represents a fellowship God touched; they were gone when I went back to check on them because they moved on. The damage to the suspension of the SUV is something the enemy planned for evil, God will use for His glory. The people gathering are from the fellowships that have stopped growing spiritually, seeking answers; wanting to know how the one fellowship was able to move on.

The fellowship where God is sending me is a place where I will minister the gospel of Jesus Christ as an overseer. The fellowship will build and/or have already started building relationships with other fellowships (not based on denominational boundaries). Through the relationships, the fellowships will grow spiritually and help one another in their areas of ministry. The time there is a short season, because an overseer will come from the fellowship to continue the work. The short season is longer than I think to myself, for the damage to the suspension must be repaired before the overseer will be ready.

The dream is similar to the one God gave to Joseph, not that I will be exalted over any brother or sister (and Joseph was not either), but that I will serve as an overseer (which Joseph did after years of serving in the home of a stranger and in prison). My prayer is that my brothers and sisters will rejoice over the news and not be as the family of Joseph. God’s timing has not been revealed yet; I do not know how long I am in the first place or in the second, or how long I will be driving down the road before I come to the bridge.
