Reflections

I see reflections in the broken glass
Of what I wish was not my broken past
Broken dreams I was afraid to dream
To young, to dumb, to believe it could last.

But it did and long enough to be now
Or was it planned, God, was it you too?
Father of my birth, was I untrue?

Once I want to hear, I LOVE YOU
Mother stop, you can not pass
I am not to be through with you
Until you’ve seen your reflections in the broken glass

Was I the one who changed your life
Or were you the one who gave me mine
I cannot change you, I cannot change time.

Dad I have needed you, please don’t go
But I cannot change what has already been
Nor would I force you to stay, go
But love me now, love me then

Before you go, as you must, turn and look
Mom cannot take all the blame for my shattered past
Your part is missing from the reflections in the broken glass
