God is so wondrous in all of His ways, and we who worship Him seek to find words that can pour out from us all the wonder of His majesty. In the English language there is the word “Almighty.” It is the way God referred to Himself when He made a promise to Abraham. When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless” (Genesis 17:1). It is a way of describing God as Jesus did, “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26). Jesus was making the statement, with He who is exceedingly God, or supremely God all things are possible; He is mighty in all things. With the Almighty God, all things are possible. He is the God that cares for our earthly needs, and provide our heavenly home. He is God enough to be concerned about the hairs on our head, and the spirit in our heart. He is Almighty.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence (Psalm 91:1-3). Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty (Isaiah 13:6). Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty (Joel 1:15). The Almighty God is a God who blesses, and rises up nations and casts down nations. God is s fortress of refuge, and a fortress from where the destruction of the Day of the LORD comes from. He is the Almighty.
“I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18). The Almighty God is our Father, and we are His children. John wrote of the New Jerusalem, “But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple” (Revelation 21:22). The same God Almighty who is a refuge and a fortress is the Temple of New Jerusalem. There is no difference in the Almighty that spoke to Abraham and the Almighty that John saw as a Temple. He is the Almighty God.
The Almighty God supplies our natural lives; He designed the creation to be given to us (He blessed us before we were created). The Almighty supplies our spiritual lives; He gave us the Lamb who was slain before the foundation of the earth. Before we stained our clothes, God made a way to wash them clean again in the Blood of the Lamb (He forgave into our need). The Almighty God has been described as Mountainous, because our minds need sometime big and tall filled with life and danger to attempt to describe the Almighty God. Why should it be so difficult for us to give all of the glory to One so glorious? He is Almighty.
Is He the One who has given me milk? Yes, and the One that has given me meat in due season. He has held me to Himself and comforted me; He has held me while He chastised me. He is the One who gave rest in the evening and strength to the morning. He has given the heat of the day for my work and the cool of the evening for my rest; He has the fire that will give no man rest and the provision to rescue me from the fire. In His mouth He has life and death, and He breathed into my nose and has given me life. He is the One that has asked me to continue to receive life from Him; He has asked me to die to myself and receive from Him a life of more abundance. He is the Almighty.
